Universal Studios is a major theme park located in Osaka, Japan. It was opened in 1999 and became a major tourist attraction in the city shortly after.
Universal Studios Osaka is located near Kiohulentechoen and Ibaraki-juku railroad stations, both of which are within walking distance of the theme park. The theme park is also accessible via bus lines 106 and 105 as well as by drive if you have one.
Universal Studios Osaka’s focus is on science fiction and fantasy films, so while you do not go into a movie theater to watch a film, you do not need an admission ticket to do so. You can even go into the cinema theaters privately if you want!
As this theme park is focused on movies, there are two movie theaters inside the main Universal Studiooji-mae Entrance Hallway. You must pay for admittance to one of these before you can enter the other.
There are also several movie screenings throughout the week including Saturday and Sunday morning at 10:30am.
Purchase your tickets
Once you have your tickets, the next step is to get to Universal Studios Osaka! Tickets include a ride entitlement, meaning you can go as many times as you want on rides and in attractions.
To access the parks, you purchase a park entrance ticket for $69.99 per person, which includes rides and attractions at both parks. To use the park entrance ticket at both parks, purchase the additional $3.99 per person ticket.
Universal Studios Osaka is a narrow-gauge train themed park with six roller coasters and one short ride: The Lost River, which is located near Islands of Adventures. There are two entrances to the park: One near Islands of Adventure and the other near City Hall in Downtown Osaka.
The first thing visitors will notice about Universal Studios Osaka are all of its trains! There are five narrow-gauge trains that visitors can ride in this massive theme park.
Make sure you have the correct travel card
The Tourist Card is required to enter Universal Studios Osaka. If you do not have a Tourist Card, you will be charged the standard rate of admission onto and into the park.
Universal Studios Osaka is not just for tourists. Local residents and visitors can all visit the same park. Local children especially love visiting the theme parks as much as adults do!
If you are going with young kids, make sure they have a travel card Disneyland Park Resort Child Policy. The adults will also need a travel card to get into the park, so make sure you have enough left to cover yourself and your children too!.
The cost of a one-day ticket is ¥600 which covers access to both parks.
Find the correct platform
When you’re in the park, you want to be able to get onto a theme park ride in two ways: on foot or by ride.
On foot, you can go down some of the roads that connect the different theme parks and find platforms near where rides are located. Ride-attendants will help you find your platform, but you must do it yourself!
You can also get on rides using a gondola, which is a suspended walkway that connects different parts of a theme park. These may be used with permission from local authorities, so don’t worry about that.
Take the Nanba Express to Shin-Osaka Station
This express train links Osaka to Shin-Osaka Station, the city center of Osaka. It costs 3,000 yen one-way, or 5,000 yen for both directions.
The Nanba Express is a 14-minute ride on this express route. Once you get to Shin-Osaka Station, take a taxi or JR Local Train #1 to get to Universal Studios!
If you are going to Universal Studios Japan on your second or third day, it is better to take the Nanba Express early in the morning so you can make it onto the park before rush hour starts.
On your way into the station, look for an exit labeled Nanba! If you do not see this sign, turn around and go back to the station until you do! There are no stops on this route!
Universal Studios Osaka is a must-go attraction for visitors of all kinds. This theme park has everything from rides and attractions geared toward adults and children alike.
Change to the JR line for Universal City
The other great Universal theme park location is in the City of Osaka, near Osaka Castle. Like Universal Studios Tokyo, this park has a theme based on a certain era. This time it is THE ERA: the modern era.
This area is located in Osaka’s City Center, which makes it very convenient to get to Universal City County and Islands of Adventure. The City of Osaka lies just north of Tokyo Station and downtown Osaka, making it an easy transport option.
Like Universal Studios Tokyo, theres lots to do in this city.
Go to platform #9 for departure
At platform #9, you can choose to go to Universal Studios Osaka or not. If you do not go to Universal Studios Osaka, then you will miss out on some great rides such as Tron: Legacy and Gorilla Adventure.
If you go to the Studio City area of Universal Studios Orlando, then there are several areas that connect into a large park. These are used for shows and places to congregate. You will find the same attractions at the Japan Sea theme park as you do at Universal Orlando.
There are a few checkpoint locations at the Japan Sea theme park where guests can pick up a map and tour guide for their trip.
Wait for your ride to arrive
Once you get on your ride, you cannot get off until the ride finishes! So, unless you plan to go on a few rides during your visit, it is recommended that you sit back and enjoy the experience.
During operation times for most Disney parks and attractions, there is a designated entrance and exit for people with disabilities. Universal Studios Osaka has a few modifications available such as step-ins or seating positions that match your height.
If you have mobility issues or are low on energy, it is best to avoid the JR Kyoten-Bankai-no-Takao amusement park and instead wait for the Ride of Steel at Dengue Night Ride.

If you are traveling with a group, make sure all members of the group have a ride experience at Universal Studios Osaka. Many people miss out on the experience because they are not involved in the ride program.
For individual visitors, rides are separated into western and japanese style. In western style rides, you sit down and are brought through the process quickly. In japanese style rides, you must be on the lookout for obstacles that need to be overcome before your ride begins.
