The seeds of teams which are competing in NCAA men’s basketball tourneys determine how they’ll be divided. The selection committee is typically comprised of conference commissioners and athletic directors. The committee that selects seeds assigns them for each team according to the record of their regular season and against non-Division III common opponents.
Regions: 16 teams are divided into regions. They will be seeded according to their regular season record. Teams then square each other in the opening round to determine the seeded teams.
Each region is also split into four sub-regions according to the geographical location. If a team is within 500 miles from another team, using NCAA approved mapping software, will be considered to be in the same region.
The opening two stages of the tournament will be held at various venues across the nation. Two weekends of the tournament feature 32 first-round gamesas well as sixteen second-round matches, and eight sectional semifinals (round of 16) and finals (round of eight) games.
