Ohana Festival is an annual event held in September in Hilo, Hawaii. It is an all-day celebration of family and fun!
Ohana Festival was created to celebrate the connections between parents and their children. It is a fun way to learn about other families and community members at one event, which is also a great way to introduce your children to others outside of family.
Children ages two and up are welcome at the festival, though younger kids may not understand what they are doing. At least once per hour, children will be invited onto the stage to participate. Some of these programs include: crafts, games, entertainment, and interactive learning.
Adult programs include learning about how to be a better parent or just having some fun with your kids. On-stage appearances by parents allow them as spectators for this program.
Bring a towel
You will need one to dry yourself off after the shower or sauna, and one to wrap up in after the heat wave is over. Also, if you are a fan of karaoke, you will want to bring your favorite set of speakers because the show will be ending with about an hour of open-mouth singing.
You can also request songs before the concert starts via a web-based app, website, or Facebook page. If enough people request the same song, they will put it on stage at the last minute!
If you are hosting a party or event for music fans, you can set up bar tabs to preview songs and ask people to come back when they try them out.
Wear comfortable shoes
When you are walking across a large grassy area, please make sure to wear comfortable shoes. If your shoes are narrow or short, you may need to scale theheaheaheaheausa tree or bushes to get away from the crowds.
The heheaheausa trees and bushes can be small, so make sure you have enough space to move around in! Some people have trouble navigating in these types of shoes.
If you do not have any nice, comfortable shoes, maybe try walking with a little sock on your foot first? Or put on the same pair of socks that were used for sleep protocol? These kinds of tips could help someone else feel more connected to the event as well!
Ohana Festival is always family-friendly, so keep children and teenagers in mind. We recommend providing safety gear such as a child-sized gun or toy gun and having an adult supervise younger individuals.
Pack a rain jacket
Ohana Festival is usually held in the rainy season, which is June to September. That is why we suggest you pack a weather-appropriate jacket to attend Ohana Festival!
Since there are usually times when it is windy and cloudy, this festival is also known for its rainy season. If you are not well equipped for this kind of weather, book a room in a room with a view! There are lots of them!
There are also some rooms with bugs and other critters in them, so keep that in mind before booking your room. We would recommend checking the information website www.ohanafestival.com to see which areas have what kinds of bugs and what they look like.
Lastly, check out the website early to find out if they are changing the layout of the venue or not, as it might be hindered by the weather.
Bring cash
When buying stuff at the Ohana Festival, be sure to bring money so you can buy things from the vendors. Most of the vendors don’t accept credit and debit cards at this event, so be prepared!
Some of the vendors do not allow payment methods such as credit and debit cards, so be careful. It would be best to have a mix of cash and credit or debit cards when buying supplies from the vendors.
Lastly, some supplies may only be bought in bulk which may cost more than buying it individually. Make sure to tell the sellers how much you want each time so they can save you some money.
Remember: Bring cash and keep track of which card you use when shopping at Ohana Festival.
Plan your route ahead of time
When you’re ready to head out, the first step is to find your way. It’s okay if you don’t know where the ohana festival is, because it’s a little spread out.
There are several ways to find your way around the ohana festival, so do some research before you go! Some of these ways to find your way include: use google maps, use the hui hui app, use the ohu app, and use a map app like xtrasolution.
When you do finally get there, make sure you have enough water and food and that you are informed of any emergency situations. If you do run into an emergency, have someone nearby who can help!
Ohu is also giving some helpful check-in times via facebook and twitter which helps other attendees know what people are up to.
Take photos with characters
You can also take photos with characters at Ohana Festival, so don’t be too focused on your phone! You can save these photos to your phone or computer and send them to the character or use them as wallpaper if youre lucky enough to meet the character in real life.
Some characters prefer certain features of a person, so meeting the character with a pacman fever is guaranteed fun. If you are lucky enough to meet all of the characters, take pictures of all of their costumes so you can dream about owning them all at gift shops and tabletop stores.
If you are really lucky, one of the characters might agree to cosplay with you at Ohana Festival! Don’t be nervous if this is not your style; some people feel comfortable in just jeans and a shirt, so if you are too hot or too casual, no one will expect anything out of you.
Plan your food route
When the festival is, for example, Saturday from 10-4 and Sunday from 10-4, you should plan your food route. There are over thirty vendors that set up at Ohana Festival, and they all run their sales during these two hours.
Most of them have cash advance or discount cards so you can choose the best deal for you. If not, you can still eat and enjoy the atmosphere of the vendors as they set up, since most of them are family-oriented.
If you are planning on shopping in the evening, make sure to pack a nightdress or cover because it can be chilly at night at Ohana Festival. A jacket or jacket cover would also help keep you warm!
Ohana Festival is a great event to attend with your family, as it has fun activities for all ages.
Come late and just enjoy the atmosphere
The late-night festival is a fun way to start your weekend. Ohana Festival is a three-day party featuring over 40 local bands and dancers, food & drink specials, and an energetic atmosphere filled with friends.
Many of the bands are veteran musicians that have been asked to perform at other events this weekend, so you can ask them to perform if you are not a fan of their music.
You can also check out some of the new talent that will be joining the festival this year to see if they add any extra zest to your music schedule.
